Moments in Time: Glen Coe, Scotland (Highlands)

The winds were overwhelming but calming. The periods of rain were drenching but refreshing. The brisk air cut through your skin but awakened the very breath of your life. Standing in its midst was somehow a confrontation with truth beyond the ability to explain with my senses. Quite simply, it was one of the most mystical experiences of my life. Glencoe is nestled in the Scottish Highlands. It is about 100 miles or so from Edinburgh. Suppose you leave from Edinburgh, as I did. In that case, you go through the lush greenery of the Scottish lowlands, passing many breathtaking lochs (lakes) and some picturesque towns. Stirling, for one, with…

Now More Than Ever, We Need the Wisdom of Sports

Sports have returned for the most part after being shut down due to Covid-19. From International and National Football (soccer) to MLB, NBA, and Golf, games have at least returned for our viewing pleasure on TV. Although there is much that is different due to all of the necessary health protocols, the essence of sports, competition, and what it means to be a part of a team, a fan is back. Kandersteg, Switzerland

Today I was able to go to a place that I have been wanting to go to since moving here to Switzerland, namely, Kandersteg and Lake Oeschinensee.  After about a 50 minute drive from our house I arrived in Kandersteg and went up the lift to trails leading me to Lake Oeschinensee. The Great Adventure

Oh, the cravings of adventure. On one level, our family as a whole is exactly two months into our new adventure living in Switzerland. Individually, my two boys are in the midst of the “great adventure” of their lives. Living here is just a part of this “great adventure” as boys. There is without a doubt something to be said about a boys need for adventure. It is engrained within us. From infancy, boys seem to crave kicking rocks down the road, climbing trees, running instead of walking, and/or making anything into a weapon. “Men are often aggressive. They seem to have an inborn need to fight, to put themselves in…

    The Mountain

The Lenten and Easter seasons have certainly been a bit different for me this year. As a result, one of the ways I experienced the season was to go walking. There is a little mountain up the road in front of our house that has some great trails to explore. As I explored them, these were my thoughts… The Mountain A Spiritual Reflection Part One: My life is a journey… “The Christian faith is not a pastime. The Church is not one club among others. Rather, faith responds to the primordial question of man regarding his origin and goal. It bears on the essential problems man confronts. What can I know? What can…
