On a whim, I decided to take a 7:35 am train from Bern, Switzerland to Domodossola, Italy.  The one and half hour train ride is a beautiful ride down through the Bernese Alps.  Although it was cloudy and a bit foggy on the Switzerland side of the Alps, as soon as we crossed through the tunnel and came out into Italy the sun was shining.

Domodossola is a quaint little town in northern Italy that has a beautiful old section to it.  Once arriving at the station it is a quick 5-10 minute walk up the main street before you reach the side-street that brings you over to the old section.

Once you make your way into the main piazza in the heart of the old town, you are met with not only people enjoying the beautiful weather at the many shops, restaurants, and cafe’s but also the beautiful old architecture that makes you feel right at home in Italy.  And of course I needed to stop for an espresso as well.

After a relaxing time people watching and enjoying my espresso in the sunshine I took a walk around the back streets, alleyways, churches, and piazza’s before sitting down for something to eat.  I didn’t have long to sit and relax though because it was back on the train to Bern.  (I needed to pick up the kids from school at 3:30 pm (15:30))

And yes I made in back to Bern in time for the kids school pick-up!!!

Beautiful pictures! I love Italy, probably because I’m 100% Italian! My Italian parents immigrated here to the Chicago area in 1968. I’ve been blessed to visit Italy many times and stay with family. Switzerland is on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your fun day trip- totally worth the espresso 👌
